- This only fixes controller that drift up or/and down on both sticks
- This will void your warranty if you have one
- You will need Security T8 & T6 Torx driver or Xbox controller tool kit
- You will need fast drying super glue
Step #1
Take apart the shell of the controller.
To do this you only need to take off the 5 screws located here.
The hardest part is getting the panel grips off. You might need the toolkit listed above to help.
Here is a video if you need more help taking apart the controller. Keep in mind you only need to do the steps listed above.
Step #2
Removing the thumbstick
Turn the controller where the buttons are facing upright.
Then pull the top panel off. You should look like this.
Now pull the thumbstick out.
Step #3
Locating and fixing the analog-sticks
Under the thumbstick, you will find the analog sticks. it looks like this.
Find the one that giving you trouble.
On the left side of the picture, you see a gray Square part. This is what makes your controller stick/drift when it is worn out.
There are many ways you can go from here to fix it.
- Try to take off and fix the old one by cleaning it or sanding the imperfections making hang-up
- Take off the gray plastic part completely. it works but the stick feels too free and you have metal on plastic might not last long
- If you have an old broke controller you can take the gray part of it
After you decide what is best for you this is the plastic part to fix.
Once you try fixing it, tests run it to make sure that it stops drifting on you. The gray part will try to pop out on you when you're doing this but the key is to make it stop drifting before you glue it.
Gluing it to stay…!!! Be very careful and only use a dot of glue. make sure the gray plastic part is flush with the metal like it was before you took it off. only glue the top part (red circle in the picture below) and wait for the glue to dry before you move the sticks.
