Update offline maps

Offline maps that you downloaded on your phone or tablet must be updated before they expire. When your offline maps expire in 15 days or less, Google Maps tries to update the area automatically when you're connected to Wi-Fi.

If your offline maps aren't automatically updated, you can update them by following the steps below.

From the notification

  1. In the "Update offline maps" notification, tap Update Now.
  2. Tap the expired or expiring area on the list.
  3. Tap Update.

From anywhere else

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Offline maps.
  3. On the list, tap the expired or expiring map.
  4. Tap Update.

Find maps based on your upcoming trips

You can also download offline maps based on places you're going to in the future. These trips can come from Gmail, Google Trips, Hangouts, and other places. You can find offline maps to download under "Recommended maps."
